See you at JavaOne!
Sun recently sent an approval notice for the jMonkeyEngine technical session I submitted late last year. Rikard Herlitz (known to many on the forums as "MrCoder") has graciously agreed to join me in presenting that session. Together, we'll be talking about the process of building a game using the engine technology and Java in general. We'll also have some kind of sample game to use as a discussion point. At this point our plan is to focus on the highs and lows of jME game development and hopefully some specific techniques we used. If you have ideas on what we should cover or things you'd like to hear, please post them!

Open Source game development? -> Importing animated models into jME maybe is not an easy thing relying on free tools: I had to use an outside tool (md5reader2) to get a usable animation if I was to use opensource things like Blender. (blender2collada meant a failure.) I know it might be a blender thing - yet it would be nice to tread a path for FOSS only development too.
cheers,

We have just been at the NordicGameJam2008 where we made a full two player game in only 40 hours with jMonkeyEngine. Rapid game-development in java with jMonkeyEngine is very possible. We did however end up giving up on animated models since the exporting/importing toolchain from 3DS to jMonkeyEngine broke in so many ways :-)
Argh, forgot the download link:
Download : Jealous Gods
Don't mind the change in name, or the weirdness of the game - it had to contain the theme of the event: Taboo.
